The Institute brings together researchers from across the campus that target the sex, gender identity, and sexual behavior to understand health problems and outcomes. This ranges from research that looks at how sexual orientation affects the suicide rate among the younger generations to international work on how social networks shape the transmission of STDs among men who have sex with men. It also includes how the intimate relationships of young women can influence and even coerce their fertility behaviors, contraceptive use, and reproductive preferences.
