Leslie Hulvershorn, IU School of Medicine’s first female psychiatry chair, inspires department with passion for excellence

Leslie Hulvershorn, Continuity Lead at the Irsay, is profiled in the IU School of Medicine’s Women in Leadership series.

Dr. Hulvershorn assumed the role of chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine in June 2022 after a year as co-interim chair. She is the first woman to hold the position at IU School of Medicine and is leading with a passion for producing the highest quality research and clinical care in a field with a huge demand for psychiatric services.

Hulvershorn is also engaged with an international research program studying the offspring of people with bipolar disorder and works with Indiana state government leaders on several initiatives related to mental health and addiction. Her notable efforts include development of a psychotropic medication monitoring program for the Department of Child Services.
