Biography

Nicole Siegal received her Ph.D. In Economics from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa in 2024 and is now a postdoctoral research fellow at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Her research lies primarily in applied microeconomics of health economics, public health, policy evaluation, and political economy. She is currently focused on work related to economic, political, and social outcomes relating to substance use and the opioid epidemic, as well as ongoing changes to abortion policy across the US. Previously, she worked as a graduate research assistant at the University of Hawai'i Economic Research Organization (UHERO), as a part of the Pacific Alliance Against COVID-19 (PAAC) and Maui Wildfire Exposure Study (MauiWES) working on projects evaluating the effects of the pandemic, the 2023 Maui wildfire, and other health disparities in the state of Hawai'i.
