Biography

Joseph R. Shaw, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs where he also serves as the School’s Associate Dean for Research. He is an environmental toxicologist whose research uses genomic tools, coupled with evolutionary theory, statistics, and informatics, to reveal biomolecular pathways resulting from chemical exposures. He co-founded the international Environment Care Consortium, which seeks to apply these novel monitoring approaches to fingerprint the environment and predict toxicological/disease outcomes with the goal of using this information to defend people’s rights to a healthful environment. In 2020, he was appointed to the Lancet Commission for Pollution and Health, where he contributed to their second global assessment of pollution’s health impacts.
