Biography

Gabriele Ciciurkaite is a medical sociologist and her work broadly underscores the importance of understanding the sources of inequality as ubiquitous, therefore, she focuses on unique and interactive effects of adversities associated with one’s social location and identity, and the ways they influence physical and mental health. She is particularly interested in social epidemiology – specifically, identifying linkages between fundamental social causes, intervening social stressors at the individual and structural levels, and health outcomes. Her research largely draws upon her expertise in survey research and advanced quantitative data analysis and covers three areas: (1) the reciprocal association between social context and nutrition-related health issues; (2) the impact of adversity in one’s social environment and social stressor exposure on mental and physical health, more generally; and (3) infectious and chronic disease prevention and management among vulnerable populations.
