Biography

Edlin Garcia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Wellness Design at the School of Public Health at Indiana University Bloomington (SPH-IUB). Her research interests include behavioral health (i.e., mental, emotional, and substance use), mental health literacy, and mental health help-seeking behaviors among adults. Through interdisciplinary approaches, she strives to develop effective interventions, tools, and resources for enhancing mental health understanding and support within the workplace. Edlin has taught Stress Prevention and Management at SPH-IUB. She is a trained volunteer crisis counselor for the Crisis Text Line (Crisistextline.org or text 741741) and is certified by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Global Studies from UC Santa Barbara, a Master’s of Public Health degree from the University of South Florida, and a doctoral degree in Health Behavior from SPH-IUB. She has presented at various IT and analytics-related conferences about mental health, including IT Nation Secure and the Healthcare Forum hosted by Kelley Institute for Business Analytics. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, the Indiana Public Health Association, the American Psychological Association, and the Indiana Latino Leadership Circle.
