Biography

Deziree Jackson is a Ph.D. student in Sociology at Indiana University. Deziree’s research lies in medical sociology, racial health disparities, mental health, and social psychology. She is currently assisting on a project that examines Indiana Medicaid beneficiaries’ experiences enrolling and accessing healthcare coverage before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. She seeks to understand how racial minoritized groups navigate administrative burdens, as well as examine racial and gender differences in depression and anxiety among Medicaid beneficiaries. Her goal is to approach medical sociological research from an interdisciplinary and intersectional lens that centers Black livingness as nuance and complex, while interrogating methodological and theoretical research practices that reproduce inequities.
